Be the generation to make the difference
In November 2017, we launched #WeCanWeWill, a mental health campaign for young people aiming to change attitudes towards mental health.
Mental health problems are more common than many people realise. One in 10 young people will be affected - that’s three people in the average classroom. The effects are as real as a broken arm, even though there isn’t a sling or plaster cast to show for it.
The shame and secrecy around mental health not only makes the issue harder to speak about but can lead us to exclude others, make assumptions and treat people in negative ways. Being able to talk about it openly can take the taboo out of something that affects us all.
As our future generation, today's young people have the power to change attitudes and end discrimination towards people experiencing problems with their mental health.
Watch the latest series of videos, where Young Champions Kim, Jack, Izzy and Jess speak out about when they first realised they were having problems with their mental health and who they spoke to about it. They answer the question, 'What three pieces of advice would you give to someone experiencing problems with their mental health?', hear their responses, here.
We received funding from the Big Lottery Community Fund to run a three year pilot (Sept 2016 to August 2019 inclusive) for a focused anti-stigma and discrimination Programme, led by, and for young people. We worked with 14 schools across Wales during this time to change behaviour and attitudes around mental health problems. The results of the pilot Programme can be found here: Time to Change Wales - Young People's Programme Evaluation Report.
